About This Access Site
Woodford State Fish and Wildlife Area offers a public boat ramp and docking facilities on the Illinois River in Woodford County. This is a major river system (273+ miles long) with substantial flow averaging over 27,000 cubic feet per second, making it suitable for larger vessels and experienced paddlers. The site accommodates various watercraft, with no horsepower restrictions, though visitors should note that large boats may have difficulty navigating the shallow backwater lakes in the area.

The facility provides convenient amenities including water pit privies, a sanitary dump station, and designated camping areas for tent and trailer camping. The Illinois River in this region experiences periodic flooding, so it's highly advisable to call ahead and check current water conditions before visiting. The surrounding 1,350-acre area is excellent for fishing and wildlife observation, with over 200 bird species documented at this Peoria Audubon Society hotspot, plus designated waterfowl blinds on the backwater areas.
