Description
S. Mineral Creek is a fun, plop and drop-style run, in a gorgeous alpine setting. It's short and sweet, easily lap-able, and definitely not a run to travel to unless you're in the area. There's excellent wilderness camping in the valley and incredible mountains and trails so multi-sporting it offers awesome options.
Drive up the Mineral Creek dirt road past the FS Campground. Keep going up until the road levels out and look left into the creek. You'll see an obvious gorge. Park somewhere along the road (not easy) and hike down to the creek. The first rapid is a 20' drop that's easily identifiable and the final drop is a cauldron-looking drop with a tight lead in and lead out. The entire run maybe 1/4 of a mile. There's a trail along it river left and safety is easy to set up.
Other parts of this creek have been picked off from time to time including some rowdy drops yet avalanche debris choking the creek bed and tree fall everywhere have kept most people from running anything else.
