01. Wickiup Dam to Pringle Falls

This run is largely a scenic flatwater paddle to Pringle Falls. You can take out at Wyeth Campground upstream of the falls or continue on downstream and finish the run with a flourish and take out at Pringle Falls Campground. The rapid starts with 200 yards of class III visible from the FR 43 bridge and then picks up with class IV that should be scouted. Portage around the falls is possible but the land is all private and for that reason those not running the falls should take-out at Wyeth Campground. Logistics: From Highway 97 mile 165.3 turn onto Burgess Road and follow it 7.3 miles down to the Deschutes River and an intersection just prior to the bridge across the Deschutes River. To reach the take-out from this intersection turn right on Forest Spur 500 and follow it 0.7 miles down to the Pringle Falls Campground which provides hand-carry access to the river (no ramp). To reach the put-in from this instersection turn left on E. Deschutes Rd. (Forest Road 44) and follow it 6.1 miles up to Tenino Boat Launch put-in on river right that includes a boat ramp. An alternate access to take out before Pringle Falls can be reached by staying on Burgess Road and crossing the river (no public access at the bridge). At Burgess Road mile 8.0 turn left to Wyeth Campground and drive 0.2 mile down to the boat ramp. Pringle Falls Campground (7 sites) and Wyeth Campground (5 sites) are both beautiful camgprounds in a forested setting.
