Once below the town of Howardsville, the Animas river gets some of its gradient back. The river devellops a Class II/III nature as its enters a noncommitting high cliffed mountain canyon.
This is a run of both respective whitewater quality and west slope scenic quality, making it a worthy float or excellent addition to any Upper Animas trip.
Man-made structures in downtown Silverton form decent play features at higher flows.
Directions
Put in at the Howardsville Bridge (take out of the Eureka/Howardsville section) 3.9 miles northeast of Silverton along CR2.
