Description
A bypass at a dam in town can provide some class I-II diversion for area paddlers. At some flows, at least one or two fair playspots may develop. Could be a worth a look, if you don't mind the rather industrial setting, with Flambeau River Papers on the West/river-right (and using the hydropower of the main-channel dam), and an (apparent) waste-water treatment plant on the East/river-left.
We would also note: This is the terminus of the Tuscobia-Park Falls Trail, one of the state's great Rail Trails (former railroads, repurposed into multi-purpose recreational use). While many rail trails are restricted to non-motorized traffic (bikes and pedestrians), many parts of this trail are open to ATV/UTV traffic (and snowmobiles in winter), and equestrian (horses). There is, therefore, a general disclaimer that "bicycling is not recommended", since the surface is not specifically designed/groomed for that purpose, thus 'off-road' bikes (or any bike with wider tire/tread) would be more suitable.
The 'shuttle' here will generally be to carry up (as many times as you opt to do, depending on your time and energy and how it's running). Thus, we have set the directions to default to your home zipcode. Use the text-entry box to enter your home address (or other starting location) to get more specific drive time, distance, and directions.
