Corydon Country Club to County Fairgrounds (1.5 miles)

If the water is flowing over the golf course entrance road in Corydon, it's a run. Absolutely, positively, put-in below the aforementioned roadway. If you see it at lower flow, you'll understand why. There are drainpipes and some nasty sluices that run under the road. The first ledge is within sight of the put-in. Skirt on the right or blast through the middle. The next 1/4 mile has some nice surfing waves that must be caught 'on the fly'. Looking for an eddy? Fuggedaboutit! There's one behind a stand of grass right of center. The rest are in the trees. Eddies become more plentiful as you go downstream, as the golf cart paths that cross the river several times, make huge eddies. The next ledge is probably the stickiest one. I scouted it quickly, saw a tongue right of center, and by the time I got back in the boat, (probably 2 minutes--- tops!), the right of center line was no longer a tongue. Doh! Anyway, there are about 5 of these crossings. Most are pretty straight-forward. As you get close to town, the river splits around a tiny island. Catch the wave in the left channel. When you get into town, be ready for "the man" (meaning the police) to be standing at the shore shouting, as there is a nasty sluice downstream at runnable levels. We were eddying out at a safe distance above the sluice and were threatened with going to jail if we didn't get out of our kayaks immediately. The roadway/sluice at Mulberry st. creates a really nice playspot called "Chicken Wave", a playful reference to the fact that it is directly downstream of the Tyson chicken plant. Note: Boat this one at your own risk. Environmental nightmare. My eyes were burning.
