Run Map
Description
Description:  The upper section of Hurricane Creek is a ¼-mile long series of bedrock slides followed by ½-mile of brushy class I-II with some portages for wood. Flows:  It takes a big rain event to make it run and it drops out fast, but if you can be there when it is still raining or has just stopped after 3+ inches of rain, it’s a short sweet treat.  The more water the better and its so close to the top of the watershed it doesn't seem to ever get too high, so it’s a good one to know about when everything else in the area is blown out. Video:  The first 0:59 of this video shows all of the slides on Upper Hurricane Creek: https://youtu.be/4bNWSmAiqLk Put In:  The put in is just off AL 89 on a private driveway (beloinging to Mr. Burt) here: https://goo.gl/maps/mziUM8repg62.  Park off the left side of his driveway near the first slide.  Be careful not to tear up the grass, don’t block the driveway, don’t change clothes in view of the house, or do anything else to jeopardize access.  So far, he has been ok with boaters parking there and paddling through his yard, but that could easily change if people aren’t careful to be respectful of this private property. Take Out – Option 1: run as many laps as you want and walk back to your vehicle at the top. Take Out – Options 2: After the slides, paddle ½ a mile and take out at the bridge on Oak Hill Road NE https://goo.gl/maps/eRjkhG3KpxJ2 or continue down the lower section.
