See the
Black Rock Fork of the South Umpqua page on Oregon Kayaking for description and photos.
Put in at these coordinates to add another good rapid: 43.136420, -122.569469
To get to this put in, drive 0.7 miles past the normal put in to a sharp corner. Walking in from this corner is the shortest distance to the stream (about 200 feet), the parking situation still needs to be sussed out. This upper rapid is about a 15 foot waterfall and has multiple line choices. Upstream of this location/Prong Creek, the Black Rock Fork is small with a number of wood issues and lacking quality whitewater.
The stream has been run a few times since the OregonKayaking trip, the verdict is it is worth doing.
The run is a distance from populated areas, to make the trip worth the drive a weekend can be made in the South Umpqua Drainage. Other runs to check out are highlighted below.
Upper and
Lower Jackson Creek.
Falls,
Upper and
Middle section of the South Umpqua.
Elk Creek.
Along with the option for some exploratory runs.
