Description
Note: This is not a _lower_ section of a river named the _Tamarack_. The river is the _Lower Tamarack_! This is a pool-drop river with some fairly long (up to 1/4 mile) class I-II rapids, and occasional small surf waves or holes. There is a fair amount of flat water on the lower part of the river, and the St. Croix, to the take out. (The run ends with approximately 1.7 mile paddle-out on the St.Croix River, which is included in the mileage figure cited above.) Put-in elevation is approximately 994'. Take-out elevation is approximately 867'. Thus total elevation change is approximately 127'. Put in: from the take-out, go west across Mn.48/Wi.77 bridge. Take the first right in Mn. on CR173. Follow this to Hwy.25 and turn right. Proceed about 1 mile to put-in at the first river crossing. Take out: MN Hwy.48/WI Hwy.77 bridge over the St. Croix, on the downstream Wisconsin side. (This is known as "Thayer's Landing".)
