Some of the best surf conditions can be found from late Summer through Winter when tropical storms, hurricanes, and nor'easters are most common. The storms can be several miles off the coast and can kick up a descent swell. Look for east to northeast winds for the best action.

Paddling culture and Surf culture often clash. It is important to realize that in the surf there are a new set of rules to follow, and as paddlers we are the outsiders. To avoid conflicts with local surfers it is imperitive to learn, understand and practice surf etiquette. Not only will this avoid a fist fight in the parking lot, but the next paddler to enter the line-up will have a better experience, or not, depending on how you comply with the rules of the surf break.
