Located 11 miles upriver from Riggins on Salmon River Road (#1614), this access site provides a convenient put-in point on Idaho's major Salmon River. The Allison Creek Picnic Area offers basic amenities including picnic tables, restrooms, and fireplaces, making it suitable for day trips and shorter paddling excursions. This is a non-reservable, day-use facility managed as a public access point.
The Salmon River at this location is a substantial waterway with an average flow of approximately 13,100 cubic feet per second and considerable gradient of 23.1 feet per mile, indicating moderate to swift current conditions. Paddlers should be prepared for fast-moving water and plan accordingly based on current conditions and skill level. The river's significant elevation drop over its course and strong average velocity of 5.22 feet per second mean that this section requires experience and proper preparation.
Multiple additional access points exist both upstream and downstream along this section of the Salmon River, including Spring Bar Campground nearby and numerous BLM recreation sites. For detailed information about current conditions, specific amenities, and alternative access points in the area, contact the BLM-Salmon Field Office at (208) 756-5400.
