**Location & Access:** South Montesano is a Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife (WDFW) access point located 0.8 miles south of Montesano on Highway 107. Turn left at the public fishing sign before the bridge over the Chehalis River and continue approximately 0.2 miles to the end of the road. The site features three concrete ramps suitable for launching kayaks, canoes, and motorboats.
**Facilities & Conditions:** The paved launch area allows vehicle backing directly to the water's edge, making it convenient for paddlers and boaters. The Chehalis River at this location offers relatively calm conditions, making it a good starting point for downstream paddling trips. Many paddlers use this access for slack tide launches, with Friends Landing (approximately 3 miles downstream) serving as a popular take-out point. The river in this area supports various boating activities including fishing.
**Planning Your Trip:** This is an excellent put-in for kayakers and canoeists looking to paddle the Chehalis River corridor. The paved facilities and vehicle access make it user-friendly for launching. Be aware that the site is near a lumber mill yard, and paddlers should plan their trip timing around tidal conditions on the Chehalis River, particularly if you're navigating toward the broader water body downstream.
