Estimated range of boatable flow
When the Klamath River reclaimed its free-flowing course following dam removal in 2024, a short reach of the river found its path in a new location, flowing through a stand of upright trees that were not removed when the river was flooded in 1917. Now, the river flows through the standing skeletons of these trees which pose an avoidable but potentially dangerous hazard to river runners. The current is swift and the river courses around a couple bends thorugh intermittent clusters of these trees and their associated logs and other wood that have accumulated on them. These may pose a particular hazard for SUP paddlers; the use of a leash is not recommended here due to the high likelihood of entanglement in the event of falling off the board.
