Rapid WV

Lower Shenandoah Playspots below "Roller Coaster" and before Potomac confluence.

Shenandoah - 3. Millville, WV to Harpers Ferry (Potoma Wayside, VA or Weverton, MD) (WV)

Gauge Conditions
Runnable: 1.7 – 9.0 FT

Description

"Ring Hole" - After "Roller Coaster" there is a ledge across the middle/left of the river.  At the far left side of the river between the ledge and the shore is a small hydraulic which is grabbier than it would appear, that can be a play spot.  (This playspot is flooded out when the Potomac is above 5.0' [Point of Rocks gage].)

"Mini Skook" - At lower water levels, there is a long, smooth and riverwide surfing wave that appears below the rapids but before the confluence with the Potomac.  If caught correctly, it can provide a long multiple boat surf.  (This playspot is only available at low water, as it washes out when the Shenandoah is high and floods out when the Potomac is high.  Picture is of Mini Skook at 1.85' Millville [Shenandoah]; 1.54' Point of Rocks [Potomac].)

'Ring Hole' playspot levels: 4.5-5" [Millville gage]

'Mini Skook' playspot level:   1.7-3' [Millville gage].
