The Bath South boat ramp, located at 81 Washington Street (approximately ½ mile south of the Maine Maritime Museum), provides convenient access to the Kennebec River. This free, all-tide launch facility features a cement boat ramp and ample parking, making it suitable for kayaks, canoes, and motorized vessels. The ramp opens ½ hour before sunrise and closes ½ hour after sunset.
From this southern launch point, paddlers can explore both the upper and lower Kennebec River, as well as access Merrymeeting Bay where the Androscoggin River converges. The location is particularly valuable for those interested in exploring multiple river systems and tidal waters. Nearby attractions include Pond Island National Wildlife Refuge, home to the historic Pond Island Lighthouse (operational since 1821), which marks the entrance to the Kennebec River. The Maine Maritime Museum also welcomes water-based visitors, adding cultural interest to your paddling trip.
