The Sixmile access point provides convenient entry to the Flambeau River near Park Falls in Price County. This boat ramp is one of several established landings serving the Flambeau River system and offers free access with overnight parking available for paddlers planning multi-day trips. The location provides good access to both upstream and downstream paddling opportunities along this popular Wisconsin river.
The Flambeau River offers diverse paddling options suitable for all skill levels. Depending on water levels and your chosen segment, you can expect anything from gentle flatwater paddling to challenging whitewater. During medium to high water, upstream segments feature fun II+ rapids with long flatwater stretches, while downstream sections near Little Falls offer class IV and II-III rapids for experienced paddlers. The river corridor is particularly notable for its 14 riverside canoe camps located within the Flambeau River State Forest, making it ideal for backcountry camping trips.
Before heading out, check current water conditions and plan your route accordingly—water levels significantly affect river character and difficulty. Additional facilities like drinking water and toilets are available at designated canoe camp areas. With six established landings on the North Fork and one on the South Fork, paddlers have flexibility in planning shuttle trips or day paddles of varying distances.
