About This Access Site
The Sauk River access point in Darrington offers convenient launch and take-out opportunities for paddlers and boaters on this popular low-elevation floodplain river. Located on the southwest side of the Sauk Prairie Road bridge, the site features a dirt parking area with direct river access under the bridge. The concrete boat ramp is 14 feet wide, making it suitable for kayaks, canoes, rafts, and drift boats. Ample parking and basic facilities support various water activities.

This site works well as either a launch point for paddlers exploring the Lower Sauk or as a take-out location for those floating downstream from upper sections. The Sauk River is known as a beginner-to-intermediate paddling destination—a mellow, scenic run through forested terrain ideal for wildlife viewing, including bald eagles. The river's low gradient and gentle character make it accessible for recreational paddlers of varying skill levels. Clear Creek Campground, a reservable facility, is located within 10 miles for those planning overnight trips.
