Description
The Ankle Buster Chute is a technical Class III+ rapid characterized by a narrow constriction with powerful hydraulics and multiple rock obstacles that demand precise boat positioning. Paddlers must navigate a tight central chute with sharp-edged boulders and a series of diagonal and breaking waves that can quickly flip an unprepared kayak, with the most challenging section occurring in the first 50 yards where the gradient increases and water velocity intensifies. Careful scouting from river right is recommended, with the preferred line requiring a strong ferry angle and immediate eddy-hopping to avoid potentially boat-damaging rock formations.
