About This Access Site
Buckhollow Boat Ramp is a primitive launch point on the Lower Deschutes Wild and Scenic River near the mouth of Buck Hollow Canyon in Tygh Valley. Located at the northern end of the Lower Deschutes Back Country Byway, this day-use-only facility provides access to the scenic 32-mile stretch of river featuring dramatic rimrock canyons and notable rapids. The access road is narrow, rocky, and tightly wedged against the hillside, so drivers should exercise caution, particularly with larger vehicles or trailers.

**Important Requirements and Logistics:** There is no fee to launch, but a Boater Pass is required year-round for all watercraft and floating devices used for transport on the Lower Deschutes River—passes are mandatory for both day and overnight use. No ADA-accessible facilities are available at this site. To reach Buckhollow from Maupin, drive 8 miles north on the Deschutes River Access Road, turn right on State Highway 216 for 0.5 miles, then left onto the gravel BLM access road for 0.4 miles. Several campgrounds are located within 10 miles, including Rattlesnake Canyon, Jones Canyon, and Beavertail campgrounds, making this a good base for multi-day paddling trips.
