About This Access Site
Pine Tree is a primitive boat ramp providing access to the Lower Deschutes Wild and Scenic River near Tygh Valley in Sherman County. Located along the northern segment of this federally designated scenic river, the ramp serves as a popular put-in point for kayakers and canoeists exploring the Deschutes. The site is easily accessed via the Celilo Exit from I-84, then four miles east to Deschutes State Park, with the ramp located approximately 1.2 miles south. This is a primary launch point for trips through the rugged Columbia Plateau landscape, with Beavertail serving as a common take-out point downstream.

Boaters should be aware that the Lower Deschutes operates under a group size limit system. Groups using this segment are limited to 16 people maximum, regardless of the number of Boater Passes purchased. A Boater Pass is required and valid only for the specific segment and dates issued. The river's designation as both an Oregon Scenic Waterway and Federal Wild and Scenic River reflects its outstanding natural character, featuring steep rimrock canyons and frequent rapids throughout the run.

Several campgrounds operate within 10 miles of Pine Tree, including Rattlesnake Canyon, Jones Canyon, and Beavertail, providing convenient camping options for multi-day trips. The Lower Deschutes River Back Country Byway runs 32 miles along the east bank and offers additional perspective on the landscape and river conditions you'll encounter.
